SEA-PLM supports acceleration of Sustainable Development Goal 4 to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities.
SEA-PLM links directly to SDG target 4.1which emphasises the ‘learning outcomes’ by going beyond mere access and participation, to focus on quality education. It offers a concrete tool to measure sustained efforts to increase children’s learning outcomes, addressing the importance and relevance of critical thinking, 21st century skills, social emotional learning and respectful relations.
SEA-PLM provides a tool for Member Countries to help monitor their progress towards inclusive education, as per SDG target 4.5 which hopes to eliminate gender disparities in education, ensure equal access to all levels of education and vocational training for the vulnerable, including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples and children in vulnerable situations.
SEA-PLM contributes to SDG target 4.7, which states that among key skills needed for all learners to promote sustainable development are ‘global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity’. The act of measuring such skills suggest that these are recognised as an important aspect of quality learning for children to develop the skills, attitudes and values that enable citizens to lead healthy and fulfilled lives.
